And while some companies try to break the monotony by using metal trim here and there, essentially all of these models have the same rounded shape, straight lines and flimsy back cover. Vibe P1m is no different from them. But it's a utilitarian design, and the reason everyone follows it is because it works well.

Most of the surface of the front panel is occupied by a 5-inch screen. The ratio of its area to the area of ​​the entire panel is 68%, which is due to the wide frames at the top and bottom. The smartphone runs on the Android 5.1 Lollipop platform. But typically, Lenovo phones have a completely different software and UI look than the operating system because Vibe UI is installed on top of it.

The model is equipped with 8-megapixel rear and 5-megapixel front image sensors. They work generally well, although you shouldn't expect much from them, especially when shooting in low light conditions.

When there is a lot of light, the smartphone is capable of very beautiful photographs. The colors are especially pleasing: they are clean and energetic. Close-up shots work particularly well, although blurring of detail is obvious. The Lenovo Vibe P1m camera does this, perhaps to hide noise or grain in the image. But still, if you hold your phone well and compose wisely, you can get beautiful macro shots and landscape photos.

However, there are several problems. Exposure measurements are carried out with varying success. In Auto mode, the phone tends to overexpose images. However, this does not happen all the time as it depends on the contrast and lighting of the scene. At the same time, if you use spot metering by touching the area of ​​the screen you want to focus on, the smartphone slightly underexposes the photos. In harsh light, i.e. in bright sunlight, the white balance is also unreliable.

The relative camera aperture is small, but compared to other phones in this price range, it is quite good. The smartphone may take a second or two to focus in difficult situations, and if the subject is moving, such as a dog, it will be very difficult to get a blur-free image.

In low light, image quality is mediocre. Although, again, if used correctly, the Lenovo Vibe P1m smartphone can take some great photos. But due to aggressive noise reduction, there will be noticeable blurring of details.

The front camera of Lenovo Vibe P1m, according to owner reviews, is good enough for taking self-portraits in good lighting. When there isn't enough light, you won't be able to get the images you want to post on social media.

I had a gray device for review, but the color was more graphite than gray.

As you understand, the smartphone turned out to be quite large, after all, the screen size is 5.5 inches. Of course, it’s no longer possible to use one hand comfortably. However, the smartphone does not feel like a “shovel” in your hand. Most likely, I’m just used to large smartphones and don’t perceive the true size of the device.

The thickness of the smartphone was 9.9 mm and this is a rather small figure, because a non-removable 5000 mAh battery was installed in the case.

As such, our body is non-separable. At the top there is a small plastic insert underneath which hides a tray for two nano SIM cards. There was also room for an external memory card. This is a plus, as we are not forced to make difficult choices about whether to use a memory card or a second SIM card.

Weight 187 grams can be called large. However, the heaviness feels pleasant in the hand.

The case is completely metal and only in the upper and lower parts there are small plastic inserts, under which various wireless modules are hidden. Consequently, the metal body of the smartphone does not shield the signal: cellular network, Wi-Fi, BT, GPS.

If we look at the back of the smartphone, we will clearly notice similarities with products from HTC and a little from Huawei.

There are no protruding elements in the design of the smartphone, and the back side is slightly sloping on the sides.

On the front side, the smartphone borrows some features from Samsung smartphones. In particular, the mechanical button in which the fingerprint scanner is located is quite noticeable. The upper and lower frames of the screen are quite wide, the side frames can be said to be narrow – only 2 mm.

I can't say anything negative about the build quality. After all, the body is not collapsible. Nothing creaks or presses through. If I'm being really picky, the control buttons are a little loose, and the mechanical button with the scanner is installed a little crookedly.

ACCESSORIES

COVER

The delivery set includes a cover cover. The case itself is made of transparent plastic, the edges of the case are well processed. But the plastic is still quite hard and under certain circumstances you can scratch the body of the smartphone.

The technological holes on the smartphone body perfectly match those on the case. Please note that the case does not protect the top and bottom ends of the smartphone, which can be considered a small minus. However, this case is enough for the first time.

The complete screen film is of excellent quality. Glossy, perfectly matches the technological elements on the screen.

CONTROLS

Let's go through the controls.

At the top end there is a 3.5 mm hole for a headset and a hole for the first microphone.

On the right side there is the usual power button and volume button.

At the bottom end there is a Micro USB connector and a hole for the second microphone, which is hidden behind the speaker grille. It is noteworthy that the holes are located on the sides of the Micro USB connector and you may get the impression that we have stereo speakers, but in practice there is only one speaker.

On the left side there is a mechanical button to switch the smartphone to maximum energy saving mode. What’s frustrating is that you can’t assign another action to the button, for example: turn on the flashlight, put your smartphone into silent mode, activate the camera, etc.

When the maximum energy saving mode is activated, all wireless technologies are turned off (except for the cellular network signal), the screen goes into black and white mode, you cannot enter the smartphone menu and use the settings.

The screen displays the remaining operating time of the smartphone. You can display up to 6 different shortcuts on the bottom of the screen. This could be: phone, watch, sms, contacts, etc.

On the back side there is only the main camera and flash.

The touch control buttons are backlit, but the backlight itself is very dim and practically indistinguishable.

You can adjust the button backlight time or turn off the backlight completely.

SCREEN

Lenovo Vibe P1 has a 5.5-inch screen with an IPS matrix and a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The pixel density is 401 ppi. With such characteristics, no individual pixels are visible at all on the smartphone screen. The screen aspect ratio is 16:9. The screen is made using OGS technology (there is no air gap between the glass and the touch layer).

But I was pleased with the excellent oleophobic coating, by the way, one of the best on the market; fingerprints practically do not remain on the screen.

CAMERA

The main camera in Lenovo Vibe P1 has a 13 megapixel matrix and this is the required minimum in such smartphones. Maximum image resolution: 4160 x 3120 pixels.

The camera is equipped with phase detection autofocus. Focusing itself occurs almost instantly, and the camera works very, very quickly.

Personally, I liked the quality of the shooting, although many reviews indicate that the photo part itself is not high level. However, I suggest you evaluate the results of the shooting yourself. Of course, in good lighting the pictures come out quite good; flaws can be seen in poor lighting.

Video can be shot in FullHD format at 30 frames per second.

The front camera is a 5MP matrix. Image resolution 2592 x 1944 pixels. This camera is quite suitable for selfies; the detail in the frame is at a good level.

Video can also be shot in FullHD resolution at 30 frames per second. Subjectively, the quality of the videos is worse than those from the main camera.

SOFT

The Lenovo smartphone runs on Android OS 5.1.1. An update to version 6.0 is scheduled for spring.

You can update the firmware over the air. When I turned it on for the first time, two updates came immediately.

The smartphone's firmware uses Lenovo's own launcher called Vibe UI. The advantage of this shell is that it can always be disabled in the settings and use the standard Android 5.1 interface.

I was very pleased with the loud sound in the smartphone. The volume is very high and even in excess; there is enough reserve under any operating conditions, and in some cases the volume even has to be reduced. At full volume the speaker does not produce noise and the sound is not distorted.

The smartphone has GPS/GLONASS support. This screenshot shows that there are no problems with navigation. The first “cold” start takes no more than one minute.

For communication, two nano SIM cards are used. The settings are standard, but you can select the forwarding function between two SIM cards. In our case there is only one radio module. Although the smartphone has one microphone, this did not negatively affect speech transmission. The speaker volume is also high.

Of course, it would not have been possible without support for the LTE standard.

You can access the network via 4G from any of the two SIM cards. To do this, you need to select the desired SIM card in the upper status bar. There, in the status bar, it is very convenient to track the consumed network traffic for each SIM card separately.

AUTONOMOUS OPERATION

Now we have reached the most interesting point in this review.

The battery in the smartphone has a capacity of as much as 5000 mAh. As a rule, well-known manufacturers of mobile equipment do not pamper their consumers with capacious batteries, but Lenovo is destroying this stereotype...

However, let's see what the declared 5000 mAh is capable of.

In the PCMark combined test, the battery is discharged from 100% to 20% in a long 14 hours.

Watching a video in HD resolution will drain the battery charge in 15 hours.

You can play 3D games for 10 hours without any interruption.

Listening to MP3 on headphones with the screen off lasts for 4 long days.

If you use your smartphone purely for a small number of calls, then on average the charge will be exhausted in 6-7 days.

Long talk time reduces operating time to 3 days.

Even with a constant connection to 4G and an active connection to a BT headset, a large number of calls and messages, this smartphone cannot be discharged in one day. And this is a very worthy indicator. Few other smartphones on the market can boast such battery life.
